Adaptive reuse is one of those wonky urban planning terms that gets thrown around way too often in academic settings (and by people who want to appear as though they belong in an academic setting), but I'm going to whip it out (the words and nothing else, pervert) for a moment while I ask you to consider what the hell can be done with all the self-standing, increasingly closed Taco Bells that I've been seeing all over the place. And particularly on Baum Boulevard in Pittsburgh.
What can be done with these? The buildings are created with that unmistakably fake adobe and stucco vibe, and pre-purposed for fast food only. But there's gotta be something else one can do with them. Bulldozing them doesn't count. Thoughts?
